DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION

Bloomsday has a vision of inclusion and unity that cultivates space for underrepresented voices in the literary world. We are committed to meaningful engagement with authors and readers, in Houston and beyond, as well as to our collaborators and partner organizations. The burden to improve the situational divide in our culture and in our workplaces is not on the underrepresented and underserved groups, but on people with privilege.

We understand that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices require vigilance, collaboration, and dedication, and we vow to commit to the following actions:

  1. Intentional hiring practices of sensitivity readers, slush readers, interns, contractors, and Bloomsday staff.

  2. Intentionally diverse manuscript acquisitions (both representation in the stories being told and a wide spectrum of storytellers).

  3. Ensuring equitable access to internships.

  4. Marketing Bloomsday events and stories across diverse communities.
